ABOUT Plus

Practical with a touch of extravagance, the Coriolis Pointer Date began with a concept for an hour display. The “oscillating index,” as we call it, features Roman numerals alternating with 18k gold hemispheres about a railroad track used for minutes. The result is a bold, traditional yet refreshing design element that creates visual motion, pulling the eye around the dial in a clockwise direction. Hence the name Coriolis, which is a force created by the Earth’s rotation on objects in motion.

But the dial is just the beginning, as the Coriolis is wrought with details to enjoy. A robust 38.5mm 316L steel case, conceived to maximize finishing, puts it in daily-wear territory and delivers enjoyment from all angles. Sculptural hands not only indicate the time effortlessly but also serve as a point of focus, building on the layered dial. The pointer date adds practicality and a contemporary graphic element. Inside is the Sellita SW386-1, a thin, well-decorated, precisely regulated, Swiss-Made automatic with a central-pointer date, being used for the first time by any brand, by OraOrea.

To celebrate the launch of OraOrea, the first 100 of each color will have a specially marked rotor.

CASE Plus

Measuring 38.5mm x 45mm x 12.1mm (9.3 w/o crystal), the 316L steel form of the Coriolis features a thick, rounded bezel, wide sweeping lugs, gentle curves, tapered sides, and intentional finishing to emphasize flow. A large, highly domed sapphire crystal creates a smooth profile line, ensuring a continuity of forms and a seamless appearance. Polished bevels that widen toward the tips of the lugs add motion and elegance, while a mirrored detail along the bottoms of the lugs reduces perceived thickness

To achieve a high level of fit and finish, the mid-case is constructed in three parts with independent lug-wings. This allows for brushing, or other types of finishing, on the mid-case between the lugs and immaculate finishing along the tops of the lugs. Neither simplistic nor ornate, the case of Coriolis is never flat or still. It combines everyday casualness with refined details that elevate. On the wrist, its subtle curvature from lug-to-lug provides a comfortable wearing experience.

DIAL Plus

A layered design with many components, the Coriolis dial appears as a construction with depth and materiality. Beveled rings with a brushed finish sit atop a base, providing a backdrop for the various indexes while aiding with visual organization. On the outer ring sits the “oscillating index.” Formed from a single piece of metal, a manufacturing challenge that requires laser cutting, CNC detailing, and hand-finishing, the high-polished surface dances in the light. A keen eye will notice that beneath the minutes index is a trench with a stippled texture for added contrast.

Staggered within the index are 18k gold hemispheres, providing a counterpoint to the Roman numerals and another source of reflection, catching light at different angles. Chosen for its warmth and luster, gold adds a touch of something special to be appreciated. A design element that is traditional yet timeless, it speaks to 18th-century watch design that continues to inspire us.

The inner ring serves as the backdrop for the date index, which was conceived for balance and clarity. The only printed element on the dial, the design addresses the issue of the “31 and 1” being crammed together by switching between even and odd numerals at the mid-month. The result not only eliminates clutter but also creates greater overall symmetry and legibility.

To maintain a unique visual perspective, the numeral set was designed in-house. Inspired by monospace Germanic typefaces from the early to mid-20th century, our design adds decorative flourishes while maintaining legibility at small sizes. Additionally, it was important that this index, while standing out, did not take away from the oscillating index, which is the central focus of the dial. As a printed element, it naturally recedes in hierarchy.

HANDS Plus

The Coriolis handset builds on the dial's three-dimensional nature and reflects the high level of finishing seen on the case. Beginning from the bottom, on the lowest level is the pointer date hand. The simplest of the hands, it is a medium-width straight sword skeletonized to reduce visual weight. A level up is the hour hand, which is the most complex of the set. A two-layer construction that allows mixed-metal plating if desired, the CNC-machined form features a pill-shaped central ring that is beveled and polished inside and out, capturing light at all angles.

Third up is the minute hand, which is relatively simple in comparison, yet no less captivating. A long, straight sword with CNC-beveled edges, the tip gently curves down to meet the minute index below, making it a joy to look at from the side. Like the hour hand, the bevels catch the light for a detail that is both beautiful and functional. Lastly, riding high is the seconds hand. Whispy thin, the tip curves down for a more gentle appearance, while a stacked circular counter-weight sits at the hand's back.

DIAL COLOR Plus

Skyline Silver

An unexpected combination of metallic tones, Skyline Silver features a pale silver base with circular brushing for a subtle metallic sheen. The oscillating index is rendered in a deep, vibrant teal that ranges from near-black to electric blue in direct light. The yellow 18k gold hemispheres within provide a warm contrast to both teal and silver. The date index is printed in a medium teal that emboldens the oscillating index while maintaining legibility. The hands combine silver, gold, and teal for vibrance and legibility. Dynamic and distinct, Skyline Silver balances striking color with quiet confidence.

MOVEMENT Plus

Powering the Coriolis Pointer Date is the Swiss-Made Sellita SW386-1 automatic caliber. A new variation of the SW300 (as of late 2025), the combination of relative slimness, proven quality, appealing look, and uncommon date display made it the ideal choice. Though a watch doesn’t need a date, as the Coriolis is meant as a slightly dressy daily wear, we felt that having one would increase its utility. However, cutting a hole through the oscillating index for a traditional date window was not desirable. Thus, the pointer date was the best, if only option.

The SW386-1 movements specced for the Coriolis Pointer Date are “top” grade, which is the highest accuracy standard out of the Sellita manufacture that is not chronometer certified. They are regulated in 5 positions and have a mean rate of +/- 4 seconds a day, with a maximum deviation of 15 seconds a day. For good measure, the movements are also tested and regulated during assembly of the Coriolis.

Additionally, they feature “D4” decoration, the highest from the factory, which includes perlage on plates and bridges, blued screws, snailed edges along the base plate, and rhodium plating. The rotor has been customized with a simple design featuring our logo-glyph.

STRAP Plus

The connection between your body and your watch, the strap is vital to the experience, and a major factor in its overall look. For our strap, we wanted durability, comfort, quality craftsmanship, and a neutral aesthetic. To accomplish this, we chose Italian vegetable-tanned leather in “natural,” which is to say, without any color. Veg-tan leather, which is tanned without chemicals like chromium, tends to be stiffer, less stretchy, and more durable over the long term. This means there’s a little break-in period, but it’s worth it, as the leather will mold to your wrist as you wear it in. Similarly, the color will change. What starts as a pinkish tan will turn to an orange-tinged gold over a few months and will continue to darken slowly thereafter. It’s a strap that rewards being used.

The general design is kept quite simple. It features a 4mm taper, from 20mm - 16mm, straight cut, painted sides, quick-release spring bars, and saddle stitching around its perimeter. A detail for those in the know, the slight angling of the stitch is a result of being sewn by hand. The strap sides measure 115mm/75mm, making it a medium-length strap.

The strap is fitted with a custom pin-buckle with a simple, clean design that features multiple finishes and the OraOrea logo in relief.
